Vinod (Naseeruddin Shah) and Sudhir (Ravi Baswani) are two professional photographers trying to start a photo studio. The first real assignment that they get, from the activist magazine Khabardar (literally meaning beware), draws them into the shady world of Bombay real estate. They discover that one of the biggest builders in Bombay, Tarneja, is trying to bribe Municipal Commissioner D'Mello (Satish Shah) into giving him a bridge contract. Meanwhile D'Mello is negotiating with Tarneja's arch rival Ahuja (Om Puri). The contract is finally awarded to a third person.

'Pyar Ko Ho Jaane Do‘ follows the life journey of Ishan and Preet. They are part of the Hooda family, an extremely prosperous business family of Delhi. The family has many businesses across industries but the crown jewel of their business is their arms business with the Indian government. Mr Hooda and Mrs. Hooda have three children - Trisha, Niti and Sid. Ishan (Iqbal Khan) is the nephew of Mr. Hooda and is married to Preet (Mona Singh). Ishan and Preet are the perfect couple and never seem to tire of their efforts to keep the entire family together.

In a small village lives, a beautiful orphan girl named Paro who gets a marriage proposal with no demand for dowry but instead a handsome sum of money would be paid to her guardians. Unable to resist this offer Paro is married off to the prospective groom the very same day, not knowing that she is being thrown into a spiral of bride trafficking.

Laxmi finds an abandoned baby at a temple and decides to keep him. When her husband, Shankar, returns from jail, they name the child Ramu. While Laxmi wants him to go to school, study and become someone important, Shankar wants him to gamble, partner him in bootlegging and smuggling. Ramu is unable to fit in school and decides to work with his dad. Thus Ramu grows up accepting crime as his career. Then a young woman named Mala enters his life, and both fall in love with each other. When Mala finds out about Ramu's career, she makes him promise that he will go straight. He does go straight, gets a job, and when he is laid off he takes to helping Dhondu catch fish. Then Ramu's world gets turned upside when Inspector Hemant, while apprehending Shankar, guns down Laxmi. An enraged Ramu decides that he must kill Hemant at any cost. Watch what impact this will have on Hemant's mom, his dad, and Mala herself as she watches Ramu descent into the very hell that she had tried to redeem him from.
